In these busy times, how can we make sure we maintain our health? Even when our lives get hectic and we’re dealing with school, work, or life issues, it’s important that we take the time to take care of the one and only body we have been blessed with.

Sleeping

Do you get 8 hours of sleep a night? Many Americans are sleep deprived and are only sleeping 5 – 6 hours per night. Sleep is essential, and people cannot operate properly on less sleep. They’ll be more prone to accidents while driving and perform poorly in school or at work. Plus, sleeping poorly can increase your risk of stroke and damages the body. We recommend that you take the time to sleep 8 hours per day.

Exercise

Activity levels are low for many Americans, and many do not exercise at all. Are you able to do a pushup or a pullup? A lot of people can barely do one or two. Exercise isn’t just about building strength or losing weight, it’s about mental wellbeing and maintaining a healthy body. Staying active ensures that we are using our body’s muscles, respiratory, and circulatory systems and keeping them functioning properly. How much should we exercise every day? At least 30 minutes is ideal. Try to find time in the morning before work or immediately after work before you become too tired and find yourself slumped down on the couch watching TV and making excuses.

Food

At KSA, we advocate for a vegan diet. Many of our readers eat only plant-based food. While veganism is a great diet for the sake of the animals we save, it’s important to remember that too much vegan processed foods can still take its toll on the body. Try to avoid excessive oils and salts and remember to include plenty of whole foods in your diet. It’s fortunate that there is an abundance of vegan options these days and that we can still eat our favorite traditional meals. However, remember to include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables for optimal health.

Water

Do you drink enough water throughout the day? It is recommended that we should drink about 8 glasses of water per day. Many Americans are not drinking enough water and as a result are suffering from constant dehydration. The cells in your body need adequate water to function. By drinking water, you can keep your mental clarity sharp, and ensure that your body’s organs are well nourished. You can also prevent issues like kidney stones, a painful affliction that affects many Americans.

Mental Health

Do you often feel stressed or frustrated? Do you engage in activities online that make you feel upset afterwards? Try to remember to take time during the day to relax. Find a quiet place and spend a few moments meditating on something positive. Spending time with good friends and enjoying activities together where you can unwind after a long day or stressful week is a part of having a fulfilling, happy life.
